Ha Giang Newspaper marks 60 years since first issue

BHG - Ha Giang Newspaper organised a ceremony on April 10 to mark its 60th anniversary and celebrate 60 years since the first issue (April 13, 1964 - April 13, 2024).

The event was attended by Le Quoc Minh, Member of the Party Central Committee (PCC), Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper, Deputy Head of the PCC Commission for Communication and Education, and Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association; Nguyen Manh Dung, Acting Secretary of the Ha Giang Provincial Party Committee; leaders in the Standing Board of Provincial Party Committee, Standing People's Council and People's Committee of Ha Giang Province; Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ha Giang Province; former provincial leaders; leaders from Party newspaper of provinces and cities; leaders of departments, branches, unions, districts, and cities; Representatives of businesses inside and outside the province, who have had a close relationship with Ha Giang Newspaper in recent times.

Its predecessor was the Ha Giang News, built and published by the province in 1951. On April 13, 1964, under the chairmanship of Provincial Party Secretary Le Van Luong, the Standing Board of Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution No. 11-NQ /TU on upgrading Ha Giang News to Ha Giang Newspaper.

April 13 is considered the founding day of Ha Giang Newspaper, the mouthpiece of the Ha Giang Provincial Party Committee.

After 60 years of construction and development, Ha Giang Newspaper has grown continuously, making an important contribution to the victories of the country's glorious resistance wars as well as the current process of innovation, industrialisation and modernisation.

In the early days of its establishment, Ha Giang Newspaper had only eight officers and employees, publishing once a week. The circulation gradually increased from 700 to 1,000 sheets and then up to 2,000 sheets per period.

To date, Ha Giang Newspaper has over 30 officers, reporters, editors, and employees working in five specialised departments and nearly 20 reporters who are contract collaborators.

It’s released up to five times per week, with a circulation of 8,000 - 8,500 copies per period. Since April 2020, the Standing Board of the Provincial Party Committee has allowed the newspaper to print pages 1 and 4 in four colours.

In 2021, Ha Giang Newspaper invested in an electronic editorial system and upgraded the online Ha Giang Newspaper interface with beautiful, scientific content and form suitable for developing multimedia journalism. In 2022, Ha Giang Newspaper continued to invest in equipment and build a modern studio to produce radio and television programmes, reading stories on digital platforms.

Recognising the contributions of Ha Giang Newspaper over the past 60 years, the Ha Giang Newspaper Editorial Office has been honoured with the First, Second, and Third-Class Labour Medals from the President and many Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister. Many generations of officials, reporters, and editors have received noble titles from the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee.
