Meo Vac focuses on building houses for poor families
BHG - Meo Vac District has built over 500 new houses for poor households as part of the National Target Programme on sustainable poverty reduction for the 2021-2025 period.
For years, the family of Vang Mi Ky in Sung Cang Village, Sung Tra Commune, has feared living in their shabby house whenever the rainy season comes. But thanks to government support, Ky will soon have a new home.
Ky said happily “We received a grant of 44 million from the state to build a new house. We sold one cow to compensate for building material costs. During the construction, we also received assistance from our neighbours. The house has now neared completion and we are very happy.”
In implementing the house-building programme, Sung Tra Commune has built 47 houses for poor and near-poor households. Despite facing many difficulties concerning the availability and transport of building materials, and the lack of counterpart funding, the whole political system has encouraged people to overcome the challenges to implement the programme effectively.

Under the programme, nearly 46 billion VND is allocated to Meo Vac to build houses for 1,045 poor households. After over a year of implementation, the district has completed 553 houses, equivalent to 53% of the target. Newly built houses suit the identity of each ethnic group and are approved by functional authorities.
Hoang Tien Thanh, Deputy head of the Meo Vac Department of Economics and Infrastructure, said that the department advised the district People’s Committee on the procedures for building houses for poor families, from village meetings to select eligible households, construction and handover of homes. The district also dispatched officials to communes to promptly provide guidance and address difficulties during the implementation process.
