Pear trees planted in association with developing experiential tourism in Dong Van
BHG - Dong Van District has identified pear trees as one of its key crops. According to statistics, the district currently has the largest pear growing area in the province with 348 hectares, mainly local pear varieties, VH6, Taiwan (China), grown mainly in communes and towns, such as Pho Cao, Pho Bang, Pho La, Lung Cu, Ma Le and Lung Tao, with an output of over 954 tonnes/year.
The pear garden of Mr. Giang Chu Lu's family, Quarter 2, Pho Bang Town promises to bring a good source of income. |
Building the Le Dong Van (Dong Van Pear) brand has always been of interest to the district, associated with the brand of the typical temperate fruit trees of the stone plateau; localities in the district have done well in planning concentrated planting areas to facilitate care and harvesting. The district has also established a project to develop pear trees and grow temperate fruit trees associated with ecotourism, considering this a correct and necessary direction to awaken the potential of evolving temperate fruit trees. It is also considered the best way for farmers to sell high-quality agricultural products right in their gardens at reasonable prices, without depending on traders. When the quality of agricultural products is good, farming methods gradually shift to organic beautiful landscapes, combined with experiential tourism, bringing efficiency, promoting production development and increasing people's income.
Many households in Dong Van have escaped poverty and risen from growing pears, typically Mr. Truong Chinh Lung’s family, Pho La B Village, Pho La Commune, has an area of 2 hectares of pears that are being harvested in the 6th year, with good prices. Sales range from 15,000 VND/kg, bringing in an income of 110 million VND/year; Mr. Mua Mi Po’s family, Lung Cam Village, Sung La Commune, from a needy household, after renovating the mixed garden to grow pears, his family has a stable job and an income of 75 million VND/year; Mr. Giang Chu Lu’s family, Quarter 2, Pho Bang Town, is growing pears according to the district’s project and has been supported with seedlings and fertiliser so far, bringing in an income of 50 - 70 million VND/year.
To develop and expand the pear tree area, Dong Van District has directed communes and towns in key areas to review and clearly identify growing areas and urged people to buy fertiliser, prepare land, plant and care for them. At the same time, the district has directed communes and towns to directly sign contracts with seedling suppliers, ensuring quality that the trees survive at a high rate; and develop a training plan on planting, care, and pest control techniques for pear trees for people according to the process.
