Lung Vai — ancient tea village on the side of Ha Giang City

BHG - Located about 13 kilometres from the centre of Ha Giang City, Lung Vai Village in Phuong Do Commune is a mountainous village blessed by nature. With beautiful scenery, a cool climate, and terraced rice fields associated with the lives of many generations of locals, Lung Vai is known as high-quality tea raw material area, with many beautifully shaped ancient Shan Tuyet tea trees that provide villagers with stable incomes.

 With the entire tea harvesting area in the village of ​​over 62 hectares and an estimated output of 235.4 tonnes of fresh buds, the Shan Tuyet Lung Vai tea area is located at an altitude of 700 - 1,500 metres above sea level. This is an area of the best quality raw material in Ha Giang City today. Dao Ao Dai ethnic minority people have lived here for many generations. Many generations have passed down to younger generations the ancient Shan Tuyet tea hills, with many tea tree trunks with the diameter of a human arm, standing more than three metres high, with a wide canopy. Villagers can harvest 10-15 kg of fresh buds at a time.

Ly Van Manh has an ancient tea hill located on the northern slope of the village. This is the area of highest quality raw material in the village, at an altitude of 900 metres above sea level or higher. The tea trees are grown in the natural forest and are cared for by the surrounding villages and harvested in three crops per year.

With his family's ancient tea area, Manh is one of the households with good income from Shan Tuyet tea trees. He earns over 25 million VND from selling raw tea buds each crop. In this year's Spring crop alone, his family collected and sold fresh buds and made their own finished products, earning more than 40 million VND.

Leaving the northern mountainside of the village, we followed Ly Van Man, Secretary of the Lung Vai Village Party Committee, to visit the ancient tea gardens located on the road up to the village's cardamom hill. While walking, Man said the ancient tea garden on this road was chosen by the Communal People’s Committee as an ancient tea material area that will be granted QR codes for identification. Many tea gardens here have uniform quality, and the trees are also large and beautiful, attracting many tourists and tea connoisseurs to visit and take photos.

Among the crops that bring income to people in the mountainous areas today,Shan Tuyet tea provides the most stable income. With the development and trend oforganic tea products, Ha Giang ancient Shan Tuyet tea has been increasingly interested by domestic and foreign customers.
